Summer Camp Information

Camps
Our summer camps are great! All are five day camps except one. We believe in small numbers therefore we will only allow 15/25 campers per event. Our average staff ratio is 9/1. The focus throughout our organizations 21 years has always been “Quality” vs. “Quantity”. Players who participate in our camps learn from a Christian atmosphere. We have daily devotions. And each player receives special attention in the areas of need. We take pride in teaching and simplifying the fundamentals of the game.

“Our goal is to help every player develop a solid foundation with depth along with the framework needed to play basketball for life”. We believe that once a child gains knowledge, they will receive confidence. And once they gain confidence they will begin to play with aggressiveness.

Prior to each of our camps, a well thought out game plan is created and established that we feel will offer five days of informative fundamental skills, drills and concepts with depth that will no doubt help each player improve his / her overall skills, mental and physical attitude and understanding of the game. Our director, Deon Hunter believes that elementary, middle and high school, college and professional players are responsible for maintaining a lifelong commitment to the ongoing development of their fundamental skills. He calls it the recipe for success!

Ball Handling Camp
Ball handling is one of the four essential elements of the fundamentals that every player needs to learn. During our weeklong sessions, players will be taught the basic fundamentals of dribbling. They will also learn more advanced ways to handle the ball. Through daily repetition players will gain more knowledge and understanding of how to effectively handle the ball using either hand. Throughout the week, players will be encouraged to handle the ball while being defended. They will learn how to shoot and score off the dribble as well as how to communicate with others while dribbling. Our goal is to help young players gain the confidence that they need to ask for the ball, get it and then do something with it during the game. Learning to dribble with confidence will help you go places with the ball and not be stopped. Once you learn to dribble, it can never be taken away. Let’s get started!

Emphasis: Triple threat position, cross over, between the legs, reverse pivot, around the back, hesitation, retreat dribble, two ball dribbling, v-look, advantage area, cutting corners, shake n bake, developing good practice habits, changing directions with the dribble, knowing when to drive and when to shoot, beating the defender off the dribble, backing the ball out with a protective dribble, looking past the defender and the five second rule.
