Hoop Hunter Basketball Tryout
and Club Team Information
Q. What can players expect during tryouts?
A. Players can expect a minimal amount of skilled drills during the workout but more importantly we will select the team based on how well players understand the game, how well they compete during scrimmage, how well they play with others and ultimately who the best players are per position.
Q. What type of players are we looking for?
A. We are looking for competitive committed players who have a passion to play basketball. We want players who work hard and have a healthy, contagious attitude. We want team players and not individual players. We also want players who can commit to making it to all practices and games.
Q. How many players will be on a team?
A. We need 10 players to make up a complete team. We believe that with a full roster, we can hold complete practices.
Q. How will we determine who plays and who starts?
A. We believe in the honor system. Our coaches are asked to reward players for their hard work and development in practice. By all means our goal is to have everyone play; however, playing time will be earned through consistent attendance, hard work, and consistency in game and practice performance.
Q. Where will our games be played?
A. Most of our games will be played in the Dallas-Fort Worth area (hopefully within a 30 mile radius.) If there’s a need to travel, families will be asked to pay an additional player and coach’s travel fee in addition to the tournament fee. Player and coaches meals would need to be included in the fees as well.
Q. What will be the name of the teams?
A. Hoop Hunter Hustlers.
Q. How often will we practice?
A. Our goal is to practice twice a week for two hours each practice.
Q. How often will we play?
A. Starting in March and ending in July. Our goal is to play 2-3 tournaments each month.
Q. Where will practices be held?
A. All teams will practice in Keller between 6:00pm-9:00pm twice a week.
Q. What happens if the team that I try out for doesn’t make?
A. We will either hold an additional tryout or decide not to have that particular team.
Q. When would we have our first practice?
A. We hope to conduct our first official practice the week of March 1, 2011.
Q. Will there be a payment option?
A. Yes. If you’re on a payment plan, payments will be due twice a month until the balance is paid. Balances must be paid in full by the end of June 2011. Payments can be made by check or credit card.
A discount in the amount of $100.00 will be given to players whose payment is made in full by March 11, 2011.
Q. What is the cost?
A. $1,300.00 per player. If a team has only 8 players, the team fees will be divided up between the 8 players. We will not have a team with less than 8 players.
Q. Is financial aid available?
A. Unfortunately this year we aren’t able to offer financial aid. Players who need financial assistance are asked to contact relatives and local businesses and ask for sponsorship.
Q. Uniforms?
A. Each player will receive a rented reversible green and white jersey. They will also receive game shorts and a shooting shirt to keep after the season.
Q. Can a player pay extra money to get a jersey with his/her school number if we don’t have it?
A. No!
Q. What if a player can’t make it to tryouts?
A. They should contact the coach to see if any arrangements can be made to evaluate the player. There will be a non-refundable $50.00 fee associated with a personal evaluation. If the player is selected this fee will be deducted from his/her player fees. We prefer players attend the tryout so that we can see if they truly can play against the competition we are seeking for our teams.
Q. Can a player play for more than one team?
A. Players may only play for their school team other than our club team.
Q. Who will conduct team tryouts?
A. The coach who will be coaching the team.
Extra clinics, weekday conditioning and summer camps are encouraged during the off-season.
All 2011 club team players are encouraged to workout extra by attending our ongoing weekend clinics and summer camps. This summer we will be offering a high impact point guard camp, hosted by Deon Hunter and friends. In addition to that we will offer several summer camps to players of all ages.
